A rebuild of the back half of this inner west house has transformed the home into a contemporary residence.
From the front of this modest federation cottage in Marrickville you would never know what lies ahead. The renovation saw the demolition of the back half of the house and incorporated adding a mezzanine level to the living area and kitchen end of the floor plan. Using reclaimed bricks and timber from the demolition helped retain the history of the house and added another layer of texture to a dramatic materials pallet.
Floor to ceiling glazing creates a living dining room flooded with natural light.
The kitchen with dark joinery is lightened with the addition of back butt veneer, concrete benches and a mirrored copper splash back.
Black metal suspended shelving with reclaimed Oregan timber shelves.
The entrance way between old and new was enhanced by the use of reclaimed bricks from the demolition.
A bespoke black metal stair frame was designed to support timber treads.
