The Royal Womens Hospital Randwick

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

The Royal Womens Hospitals NICU was in desperate need of a renovation. Running for Premature Babies foundation (RFPB) and the Jack Sparrow fund have made this happen. Through the hard work and dedication of nurses, volunteers and families enough money was raised to renovate and make a difference.

The project scope was to create a fresh and welcoming space which would last well with the high amount of people the ward sees everyday. The bathrooms, parents kitchen and lounge, corridors, reception and parent bedrooms were all part of the project.

The parent rooms play an important role in this wards ability to comfort parents dealing with grief and exhaustion. The rooms are not medical suites but a invaluable space that allows parents to retreat and access privacy at critical and often sad times. The brief was to make these rooms as comfortable as possible with a feeling of being at home.
