Kitchen, open shelving and bedroom space

This bright first floor 1960's apartment needed some love. A creative client aloud us to think outside the box in terms of storage solutions and finishes. The scope of works for this renovation was to renovate the tiny kitchen and incorporate lots more storage with an open shelving element. This shelving concept influenced the design throughout the rest of the apartment. Attaching Birch plywood open shelving to the roof which snakes its way through the apartment created more storage and a design thread that weaves its way from the kitchen through the lounge room and into the bedroom. The advantage of having the shelving up at ceiling level keeps furniture of the floor and opens up the corners of the rooms creating the illusion of more space in this small one bedroom apartment. The feature wall of white washed Birch plywood in the kitchen was kept as the material for the shelving for consistency and its visual lightness as a structure.

Kooky tiles and hues of soft pink with white washed birch have tied the palette of colours together contrasting against the aesthetics of the owners much loved parquetry flooring.
